* With its film industry known as Hollywood North, the Vancouver region is the third-largest feature film production location in North America, after Los Angeles and New York City.
* Thanks to the number of islands off the coast, transportation is dominated by ferry's in certain regions.
* In June 1886, Vancouver suffered from a massive fire that nearly destroyed the entire city. Workers were using a "controlled" burn to clear brush, when the wind suddenly rose up and spread the flames beyond their control. Nearly 1,000 buildings were lost in the span of 45 minutes.
