Getting Prepared
Considerations/Physical Training:
Guide Star Mountain is happy to accommodate all levels of experience. Via ferrata trips can be adapted to suit the needs of each group. Depending on the season, higher altitudes may have snow patches to be traversed. Rain is always a possibility regardless of the time of year.
Nights will be spent in comfortable luxury inns, which means only a daypack will be needed on treks. This will contain personal items and a packed lunch when necessary.
Gear Included:
Gear Included is included in this tour.
Gear Details:
A via ferrata kit is included in the tour price, including a harness, helmet, rope, and a few carabiners. To make this journey even safer, you can choose to bring additional simple mountaineering equipment, such as a harness, helmet, some rope and a few karabiners. Your guide will teach you how to use the equipment and give you hints on climbing techniques in complete security.
Visa Requirements:
American citizens (and most other nationalities) do not need an entry visa for tourist visits to Italy. However, due to the fluid nature of visa requirements, check with your local embassy or Guide Star Mountain prior to departure.
Weather:
The weather in the Dolomites usually has an element of unpredictability. In summer, expect warmer climates with blazing hot sun and breezes through the woods offering cool respite. The possibility of rainy, cooler weather, storms with poor visibility and even snowfalls in high altitudes are possible throughout the year. For this reason you should always be prepared for sudden changes in weather.
Autumn usually affords crisp clear days with excellent visibility. The days during this time of year become shorter, so take this into account when planning a trekking adventure. In September, daytime temperatures can reach into the upper 60s and low 70s, but early mornings will be cooler (upper 50s, low 60s). During this time of year, rainy days at lower elevations allow for snow in the higher elevations. Rainstorms can drop temperatures to 15° to 20°F. Be sure to bring rain gear, including both a jacket and pants every day, regardless of the weather conditions when you leave your hotel in the morning.
What to Bring:
Thoroughly broken in hiking boots are an important part of any trekking or via ferrata experience. Be sure to bring plenty of rain gear (including a jacket and pants), a hat, and sun protection. A complete packing list will be provided after booking.
