Getting Prepared

Considerations/Physical Training:

This expedition is considered to be difficult (Grade 3) with reasonably demanding trekking up to 4,000 meters (13,000 ft). Expeditions will be, in part, well away from villages on undefined mountain trails.

It is advised that any trek to the summit or to the rim of Mount Rinjani should not be undertaken during the wet season. The track itself is extremely narrow and during the wet season it becomes a raging river. The best time for climbing is between May and October, which is generally a drier and safer time of year.

Wherever possible, local porters and/or pack animals are hired at the beginning of the trek to carry luggage and equipment. This is one of the measures taken by This Adventure Tour Supplier to ensure the money spent by travelers goes directly back to the local economy.

Gear Included:

Gear Included is included in this tour.

Gear Details:

Tents, camping, cooking equipment, and sleeping bag hire are all included.

Visa Requirements:

Starting in February 2004, Indonesia imposed a US$25 entry visa fee. This Visa is for 30 days and can be purchased on arrival at Denpassar Airport in Bali. While personal photos are not required, it is advised that you bring the exact amount to prevent any delays.

Weather:

Lombok has tropical weather throughout the year and is generally hot and humid. The dry season begins in May and lasts through October. Temperatures are in the high 80’s to low 90’s (Fahrenheit) and the interior of the island can heat up quite substantially. The only exception is Mount Rinjani, which can get quite chilly at night.

The wet season lasts from November to April and, although sometimes referred to as “monsoon weather,” it is actually more windy than rainy. Overall, the weather is very similar to the dry season, aside from a cool breeze that blows through the island. Climbing to the summit or crater rim is not recommended during this time of year.

What to Bring:

Once your expedition has been confirmed, This Adventure Tour Supplier will send you detailed Pre-Departure Information with a list of recommended clothing, personal equipment, and all other relevant information to help you prepare for your trip.

All accommodation is provided as per itinerary. While many of our expeditions use tents to accommodate clients, any other form of accommodation, such as hotels and guesthouses, are always clean and comfortable. The process of eco-friendly accommodation is a slow one; however, This Adventure Tour Supplier tries to use such establishments as much as possible where available.

Risks/Medical Considerations

Insurance Coverage::

Insurance is not included with the tour; however, purchasing travel insurance is recommended. The correct coverage can be purchased through This Adventure Tour Supplier.

Hazards/Health Risks::

This trek is neither for the faint hearted nor the unfit. The climb to the rim of the volcano is extremely hard and a reasonable level of fitness is needed (though you don’t need to be super fit). The climb to the summit is even harder but truly rewarding.

Immunizations::

Travelers should arrange vaccinations as are normally recommended for the countries through which they intend to travel. Information as these matters and as to climate, clothing, baggage, gear, and similar matters is given in good faith, but without the responsibility on the part of This Adventure Tour Supplier.

About This Supplier

Supplier Description:

We take you on thrilling journeys to some of the most exhilarating destinations in the world. We tailor our trips to you, to create a personal experience in remote yet fascinating locales. Our goal is to provide the ultimate travel adventure. Our expeditions explore far-flung destinations in 10 countries, including Indonesia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Bhutan, Nepal, Tanzania, Kenya, Libya, Ethiopia, Timor Leste and Australia.

In 2003, our company was born out of a sense of change. Instead of providing clients with processed itineraries to over-run tourist destinations, we vowed to explore the most remote places in the world. At No Roads, we stick by our name, daring to travel along unbeaten paths.

Each year we embark on “Exploration XPDS,” a one-of-a-kind expedition designed to share our passion for adventure with you. We climb new summits, paddle to unspoiled islands, form new trekking paths and descend wild rivers – all in the name of exploration. These trips are open to a limited number of travelers, those willing to carry extra weight and follow advanced itineraries to join us in our quest for discovery.

In addition to our trips through uncharted territory, we offer treks to popular adventure destinations, such as Kilimanjaro and Everest. However, we do things differently than larger tour operators. We adjust our itineraries to avoid the crowds; we place you in local, family-run hotels, and we foster personal interaction with our crew to make sure you feel comfortable and secure every step of the way.

We are committed to ecotourism. Through partnerships with NGO's and carbon offset reduction companies, we work both globally and locally to protect the environments of our tour destinations and the planet at large.

We are changing the way that travel companies operate. Join us for one of our adventure tours and you will experience the difference.
